About Me

Favorite thing about CrossFit:

CrossFit is my happy place. For an hour a day, I can focus on my health surrounded by my friends, and there are always new friends to be made. I don't have to plan anything. I just show up consistently, and the magic happens. And did I mention it's a ton of fun and never boring?!

Favorite movements or workouts:

The overhead squat is my favorite movement. I also love interval work -- trying to stay consistent as the rounds go on and on is a fun game. I used to over-pace every single workout like it was a 10k run, and was always wondering why people thought CrossFit was hard (whoops). So intervals and sprinty stuff has been an acquired taste.

Favorite things to do outside of the gym:

Reading, traveling, walking around the city--especially if a friend will lend me a dog as company. I love watching musicals and ballet. I am also a fan of CrossFit as a sport and like to watch the professional competitions on YouTube or in-person.

How did you get into CrossFit?

I started CrossFit in Fall 2018 at CFDC. Coach Tom coached my free intro class! I was trying to work out again after a several years-long illness. Everyone said doing strength work would be a good idea, and they definitely seemed to be doing strength stuff at CrossFit. The coached group class format of CrossFit also struck a nice balance between trying to figure out workouts for myself in a regular gym and having a one-on-one trainer. I was immediately hooked.

Why did you decide to become a CrossFit coach?

I do not really have an athletic background. I was a goalie in a few field sports in high school, which meant I mostly daydreamed while the game hopefully happened far away, and a coxswain in college, which meant I was mostly small, loud, damp and cold. Following the CrossFit methodology and showing up consistently to classes at CFDC has taken me from some humble origins in 2018 to being the fittest I have ever been in my life...as a masters athlete. Helping others as a coach on that journey--especially when things do not come naturally or easily--gives me immense satisfaction. I am always ready with a progression to try, or a drill or accessory to suggest...because I have quite literally done them all.
