Getting Started

What is the best way to get started at CFDC?

For those new to CrossFit, the best way to start is with our Welcome Plan & Elements program. This introduces the foundational movements, proper technique, and gives you a feel for how our classes run. Completing the four-class Elements course ensures you feel confident, safe, and prepared before joining regular CrossFit classes. If you already have CrossFit experience, you can schedule a trial class to get a feel for the gym before committing.

Do I have to be in shape to start?

No - CrossFit DC welcomes everyone from absolute beginners to competitive athletes. We understand that everyone is starting from a different place. We adapt our functional fitness training to the individual, with an emphasis on safe, consistent progress. The only prerequisite we require is the willingness to get started!

Classes & Programming

Does CFDC only offer CrossFit? Do you have other types of classes?

While our main focus is CrossFit, we also provide:

  • Bootcamp classes (HIIT-style, no previous experience required)
  • Yoga
  • HYROX training
  • Open Gym
  • Personal training

What is CFDC’s programming like?

We create our own programming to best fit the needs of our community and to make the best use of our urban facilities. Programming is broken down into progressive blocks (usually 6-8 weeks in duration) with a specific emphasis. Often these blocks begin with several baseline tests that we use to gauge progress. While we have a specific focus, there will still always be a mix of strength training, conditioning and skill work in each week.

Additionally, we offer a “Performance” track with additional programming geared towards those with an interest in CrossFit as a competitive sport.

I’m an experienced CrossFitter who just moved to DC — how do I try CFDC?

Welcome to DC! You can try a free class!

This lets you experience our coaching, programming, and community before choosing a membership.

I’m traveling to DC — how do I drop in?

You can purchase a drop-in class online before you arrive or at the gym. Just bring your usual workout gear and let the coach know anything that will help you get the best experience (injuries, scaling options etc).

Nutrition

Does CrossFit DC require that I follow a specific diet?

No, however CrossFit is founded on the principle of eating whole foods at a level that best supports activity level. Our members follow different approaches, from meat and potatoes to vegan, etc. For those looking for more nutritional help, we do offer individual nutrition coaching.

I started GLP-1 medication — can I still do CrossFit?

Yes - of course, any decisions regarding medications should be made with your doctor. And while GLP-1s are effective for weight loss, there is significant muscle loss associated with usage. CrossFit will help build and maintain muscle mass and keep the metabolism running.

Working directly with a coach can also help make sure you are fueling properly and getting the most out of your training.

What membership option is right for me?

We offer flexible options including:

  • 12x/month plans
  • Open Gym only memberships
  • Welcome Plan for new members

The best option depends on how often you want to train and your goals. We’re happy to help you choose.

Can I train at both CFDC locations?

Yes! We have options that include both locations. For our CrossFit classes, some membership options specify a location, but yoga, bootcamp and workshops are all available for any member at either location.

Logistics

What should I bring to my first class?

Wear whatever you are comfortable exercising in. You can bring a water bottle (we have filtered filling stations)

How do I sign up for classes?

You can reserve classes through our member app. Classes open for booking 72 hours inadvance. Download the App
